Five Reasons Why Yoga Teacher Training May Be A Fit Even If You Don'T Want To Teach Yoga

Many people start a Yoga practice seeking another way to exercise. Soon they discover there's a lot more to it than that. Why do people keep practicing for years, even decades?

You begin to wonder, "What's this all about? I need to do some research."

Your best research avenue may be a teacher training course. You can learn the history and philosophical underpinnings of Yoga and actually practice what you are learning. Yoga is like learning to dance. No one can teach you by simply telling you how. There's only one way to learn--by doing it.

Here are five big questions about Yoga that teacher training can clear up for you.

What do these postures or exercises have to do with spiritual growth? Maybe nothing; maybe everything. A good course will help you sort out the difference by giving you the history and philosophy of Yoga.

What about the breath? I've been breathing since birth. Why is it so important in a Yoga practice?

What do breath control and posture have in common with being truthful? Yoga's prescription for living encompasses far more than exercise. You may have heard reference to the Sutra's or the 8-Limbed Path. There are thousands of years of practicing Yogi's to draw upon for reference.

I find that Yoga helps me cope with stress and adversity. Why does it happen? How can I develop that benefit more fully for myself?

I sometimes get into a 'zone' when I'm practicing Yoga. It's completely absorbing and leaves me feeling renewed and whole. What is it? Is this a common experience in Yoga?

Yoga Village is planning its second teacher training course scheduled to begin in the fall. Its goal is to answer these and other questions about Yoga.

Teacher Training

Would like more information on becoming a Hot Yoga teacher.

Teacher Training

Still interested in information on becoming a Hot Yoga teacher. Do you offer this training?

Hot Yoga Training

The training that begins this fall will be a Hatha training. Hot Yoga is a style within the larger cirlcle of Hatha Yoga. Most, if not all, of the poses in the Hot series will be reviewed in detail in the training. More importantly, the principles of teaching asana will be studied.

However, if you are looking to teach Bikram Yoga, there are strict guidelines for that. I can't speak to the details, because it is not my specialty, but over the last 15 years or so, Bikram has copyrighted his class 'script' and requires a teacher of his style to be trained in a certified Bikram training.

Some important issues to consider are: How important is teaching this specific set of poses to you? Where are you planning to teach, if you plan to teach?

Note: Hatha Yoga is a general term that includes asana practice and pranayama. Pretty much all Yoga classes in North America are Hatha classes, except for Kundalini.

Kundalini Teacher Training

I have been feeling a pull towards taking your Kundalini Teacher Training course since I began doing Kundalini yoga after going to Fiji to become a Oneness Blessing giver. I know very little, only the basics but I know it makes me feel good and helps me to stay focused through out the day when I start my morning with it. What could I expect to be able to do with this training once I complete the course? Other than the obvious self and spiritual growth? Also, can you tell me, the course, is it M-F as I work weekends and would not be available on the week ends. Thank you?

kundalini teacher training

The Kundalini teacher training concludes this weekend (5/23/2010). The training that begins this fall will be a Hatha training. All of the teacher trainings, thus far, have been on weekends, about one a month, over nine months. If you are interested in Kundalini teacher training, email info@ayogavillage.com and let them know of your interest. That way they can contact you when the next one is planned. I don't expect this years' training to be the last! Thanks for your interest,
Kerry Wills
